| Jeffrey Stephanic, born in 1946 in Canton, Ohio, has lived in the Washington, DC area since 1965. After service in the U.S. Navy and a short career in medical technology, he returned to college and received a B.A. in Fine Arts (1977) and M.F.A. in Photography (1980) from The George Washington University. After many years as a fine art photographer, Stephanic has recently turned his aesthetic energies towards an exploration of the computer as a fine arts medium. He is the recipient of the Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington Award of Excellence, the David Lloyd Kreeger prize in Photography, the Myron Lowe Scholarship, and a 1982 Printing Industry of America Award. His work has been included in numerous solo and group where he exhibits his photographs and digital prints. He is the recipient of research grants and private commissions for his photographic and digital works. Recently, in addition to his fine art portfolio, he has designed web sites for an Arts Resource Center on the World Wide Web, Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, and multimedia resources for the National Bonsai Foundation for the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum at the United States Arboretum, Washington, DC. He is on a member of the full time faculty of the Department of Fine Arts and Art History at The George Washington University, Washington, DC, where he is a leader in integrating technology into the Fine Arts curriculum. His prints are included in numerous public and private collections. He has lectured at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC and conducted workshops on the hand-coloring technique at The Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, as well as serving as juror for local and national art competitions. |
